I was born and raised in Cheraw SC and while going to Cheraw High School I worked as a lifeguard during the summers and for Pit Auto Parts the rest of the year. I attended Chesterfield-Marlbro Technical College until I enlisted in the US Army in 1986. I spent 2 active duty years in the infantry during which time I was promoted to the rank of Specialist. In that short time I successfully completed the Jungle Warfare Training Course in Panama, the Huckleberry Creek Mountain Training Course in Washington State, and the 1988 Team Spirit Exercises in Korea. These experiences instilled many of the strengths I utilize today.
I left the active army in May of 88 to attend the ROTC at Coastal Carolina College majoring in business management. Thanks to the bureaucracy of the army, the program was canceled the semester I arrived. I joined Sigma Phi Epsilon and held most of their offices. I also held the offices of Inter-Greek Council President, Junior Class Student President, and Student Government Association President all while working full time.
For the last 10 years I have worked as a promotions manager for local businesses.
Let's just say there's not much that I haven't tried or seen.
I believe in community commitment and have a strong desire to help others in distress. This is why I have worked with D.A.M. Associated Charities and the Children’s Recovery Center to raise money to benefit our local needy. I am a member of various organizat ions including the: Coastal Carolina Parrot Heads, Coastal Conservation Association, and Ducks Unlimited.
Over the last few years I have watched the city I call home change due to the influence of a group of politicaly active homeowners in in Myrtle Beach's high income neighborhoods. I have tried to communicate my concern to various city council members. I even wrote a published editorial in the Sun News. Nothing had helped! Upon talking to friends and associates I decided to make a difference. This is why I founded HELP.
